National Federation of the Blind of NJ
NFB of NJ

Founded in 1976, the National Federation of the Blind of New Jersey (NFB of NJ) is dedicated to independence, self-sufficiency, and first-class citizenship for all blind people. The NFB of NJ has chapters in various parts of the state which hold monthly meetings. Among the many programs of the NFB of NJ are the Braille Mentoring Program, the Cane Travel Mentoring Program, the Blindness Awareness Program, and the Scholarship Program. The NFB of NJ also publishes a quarterly magazine, The Sounding Board.

A major activity of the NFB of NJ is the annual State Convention which features high-powered speakers, influential policy makers, and experts in the fields of employment, mobility, legislation, braille literacy, education, senior concerns, adaptive technology, and many more. The Convention also includes a half-day JOB (Job Opportunities for the Blind) seminar at which attendees hear useful tips on getting and keeping a job. Other Convention activities are a Talent Showcase, an Exhibit Hall, and the presentation of scholarships to worthy blind students.
