Federation of the Blind of NJ
NFB of NJ
Founded
in 1976, the National Federation of the Blind of New
Jersey (NFB of NJ) is dedicated to independence, self-sufficiency,
and first-class citizenship for all blind people. The
NFB of NJ has chapters in various parts of the state
which hold monthly meetings. Among the many programs
of the NFB of NJ are the Braille Mentoring Program,
the Cane Travel Mentoring Program, the Blindness Awareness
Program, and the Scholarship Program. The NFB of NJ
also publishes a quarterly magazine, The Sounding
Board.
A
major activity of the NFB of NJ is the annual State
Convention which features high-powered speakers, influential
policy makers, and experts in the fields of employment,
mobility, legislation, braille literacy, education,
senior concerns, adaptive technology, and many more.
The Convention also includes a half-day JOB (Job Opportunities
for the Blind) seminar at which attendees hear useful
tips on getting and keeping a job. Other Convention
activities are a Talent Showcase, an Exhibit Hall, and
the presentation of scholarships to worthy blind students.
